It’s with heavy hearts and eternal optimism for the future that we announce the cancellation of STS9′s Winter Tour 2011 dates in February 2011 and March 2011 while our brother, friend and bass player David Murphy will begin undergoing timely and necessary cancer treatment following STS9′s Mayan Holidaze performances this weekend. Below you will find a note from David himself he wanted you all to read…
Greetings Family,Friends and Fans,
I’m writing to share with y’all some news I’ve received recently. I have just been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor primarily in my sinus cavity (a type of internal skin cancer). It will require extensive surgery followed by a few months long recovery periods. There will be some treatment for the cancer following also but at this time we aren’t fully aware of what that will entail and at this time we are just focusing on the task at hand which is the surgery.
With this news comes a bit of bad news for our upcoming shows. We will have to cancel all of our upcoming shows in Feb and March in order to fully get after taking care of this little health issue to the fullest, and we will do just that. There is nothing more in the world I love then playing music and sharing it with all of you and we will continue to do it for a long time together and all I ask for is y’all’s thoughts and prayers during this time of recovery!
We will still be performing in Mexico this weekend before my upcoming surgery, so for y’all down there….

I’ve recently had to fight back from an autoimmune disease that paralyzed my arms and legs and started shutting down my lungs. 7 months ago I never thought I’d get out of my wheelchair, today I’m walking again. My wife Sharon was diagnosed with basal tongue cancer 12 mo. ago and underwent Chemo, radiation, and recovery therapy. Now she is feeling a lot better and grateful that the cancer was caught in time. I am thankful that your cancer was caught in time and in time, you will also be over this and it will all be but a memory.
Our prayers are with you and those that will share in your journey. It’s not easy but you will come out the other side a stronger person and even more grateful for all the love and blessings that are in your life.

Hey guys, let me start off by lending my utmost love and support. Murph, you are strong (as well as unbelievably awesome) and I think you’ll fight this head on (no pun intended)
and come out a much healthier man and bass player 
With that said I want to lend a little information that may be informative in this time of need. I watched a ‘wrong diagnosis’ show the other day… There was a lady on there who had been suffering from very tense nasal pain. The doctors first told her it was sinus pain… then after a few tests they found a mass in her frontal sinus lobe. She underwent surgery to try and remove the mass as well as loading her up with antibiotics and antifungal meds. Long story short they found out she was on of a very small percentile of people who are suseptibal to a certain fungui that caused that mass. She suffered for years and when finally given a heavy treatment for the fungui she had a 100% turn around. There were only 12 cases like this in the whole world over the past 20 years.
I really hope this helps. Missing all your winter run means nothing compared to your health. I wish you a happy and healthy recovery. I love you Murph and the other boys too:)

My little brother was diagnosed with cancer at 11 years of age, and within two years there were no traces left! I am deepley saddned by Murphys recent diagnoses. My heart goes out to him,family,and friends. David, the year was 1997 and i was going to school in Atlanta when I meet Saxton. We quickly became friends and he told me about his buddies who had this musical thing going on. So on a wonderful Atlanta night I meet and saw you all play for the first time at the Brady House. Well, here we are many years later and what an honor it has been to share in your art. It has been one of the inspiring things in my life. It has been there for me through the good and the tough times in my life. Not to mention just some good old getting down. I pray for your health, and family at this difficult time for you. You mean alot to them, me, your brothers who you stand on stage with you, and the fans that you inspire.
